Civil society leaders demonstrate against deal with Raut

Civil society leaders stage a demonstration against the government-CK Raut agreement, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

Kathmandu, March 13

A group of civil society leaders on Wednesday staged a protest in Kathmandu against a recent agreement that the government signed with Madheshi politician CK Raut.

Policed interfered in the protest and detained the demonstrators including Krishna Pahadi.

They had launched the demonstration in front of the southern entrance of Singhadarbar, the main administrative complex of the country.

The demonstrators argued that the deal was  ‘criminal’ in nature and it jeopardised the country’s sovereignty as Raut supporters began interpreting as the government’s agreement to hold a consensus on whether to separate the Madhesh region from Nepal.

They, however, maintained that the deal should be welcomed if it really ended the secessionist movement.
