Chudamani Sharma fails to post bail, to stay in custody

Kathmandu, June 30

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Thursday demanded that suspended chief of the Inland Revenue Department, Chudamani Sharma, post a bail of Rs 3 billion to release him.

The embezzlement alleged, however, failed to meet the demand, forcing the anti-corruption constitutional body to extend his detention till he conclusion of investigation.

Sharma was arrested from his office on June 2 on the charge of misappropriating the state fund while he was a member of the Tax Settlement Commission.

The Commission had also asked the equal bail amount from then chair of the TSC Lumbadhwaj Mahat and member Umesh Dhakal.

However, the two are at large and the CIAA has announced a reward for people informing the whereabouts of Mahat and Dhakal.
