Kathmandu, July 16

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Sunday filed a case at the Special Court against suspended chief of the Inland Revenue Department, Chudamani Sharma, claiming he embezzled Rs 10.02 billion from the state coffers.

The anti-corruption body says Sharma along with Tax Settlement Commission chair Lumbadhwaj Mahat and member Umesh Dhakal embezzled the sum while making decisions on tax exemption during their tenure in the Commission.

While Sharma is in the CIAA custody after failing to post a bail of Rs 3 billion, Mahat and Dhakal are absconding.

Sharma was arrested from his office on June 2 on the charge of misappropriating the state fund while he was a member of the Tax Settlement Commission.
