Chitwan: Local leader’s vehicle hits and kills Nepal Army soldier

Chitwan, July 18

A Nepal Army soldier has died after being hit by the vehicle of a local leader in the Bharatpur metropolitan city in Chitwan of southern Nepal.

Raj Kumar Gurung, a local CPN-UML leader, was driving his car (Ga 2 Cha 9062) when it hit a motorbike (Ba 33 Pa 1455) last night, according to police. Nepal Army soldier Suraj Gurung (33), a resident of Byas municipality-12 in the neighbouring Tanahun district, was riding on the bike.

Seriously injured, Gurung was taken to Chitwan Medical College, where he died during treatment.

DSP Rabin Bista of the District Police Office says driver Gurung was under the influence of alcohol during the accident.
