After all four Asian Games cricket quarter-finals were washed out due to continuous rain, Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) president Chatur Bahadur Chand has said the body will work to correct the tournament’s playing conditions in the days ahead.
In an interview with Himalaya Television, Chand said no one had anticipated that all four quarter-finals would be “washed out” by rain. He said the matter was not taken seriously enough at the time, since the process of drawing up the playing conditions involves the Full Member nations.
“It was never imagined that all four quarter-finals would be washed out. Since the people who draw up the playing conditions are the Full Members, we didn’t take it seriously back then; it wasn’t done properly,” Chand said.
According to him, CAN had already accepted the tournament’s playing conditions beforehand. So rather than disputing the matter now, he said, it makes more sense to push for the necessary corrections ahead of future tournaments.
He said any shortcomings found in the playing conditions need to be fixed.
“There’s no option but to accept it for now. Since we had already accepted the playing conditions, there’s no point disputing it now. It will be corrected from next time; we will lobby for it,” Chand said.
Continuous rain at the Asian Games led to all four quarter-finals being cancelled, including the one between Nepal and Sri Lanka.
With the matches unable to be played, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, who ranked higher under the pre-determined playing conditions, advanced to the semi-finals.
