Kathmandu, August 14
Although bail had been sought in an indecent behavior case, Milan Gurung, aka Chakre Milan, known as a gang leader, was not released immediately.
On Wednesday, a bench of Judge Khimananda Bhusal at the Kathmandu District Court had ordered Chakre’s release on bail of Rs 30,000.
Although other defendants who were granted bail alongside him had paid the bail amount and were released the same day, Chakre was not freed immediately. Kathmandu District Police Range spokesperson and SP Kuldeep Chand said that there was no possibility of Chakre being released on Wednesday.
He had stated that Chakre would be sent to Bhaktapur since there was an attempted murder case against him there. Similarly, DSP and spokesperson of Bhaktapur District Police Range, Dhundiraj Neupane, had also said that since the attempted murder case was registered in Bhaktapur, Chakre would be brought there after his release from Kathmandu.
As a result, although 18 others arrested with Chakre had been released upon paying the required bail amount, Chakre was unlikely to be freed on Wednesday.
On August 26, 2024, Dinesh Kumar Rayamajhi had filed a complaint accusing Chakre of attacking his nephew, Manish Rayamajhi, at Buddha’s Tawa Restaurant in Divyashjari, Sanothimi.
The complaint had stated that the attack was carried out by Ajit Khawas, a 25-year-old resident of Hariban Municipality-4 in Sarlahi, and others, and had also been named Chakre. Following the complaint, police had arrested Khawas, conducted an investigation, and filed charges. However, in Chakre’s case, he had not initially been made a defendant, citing his whereabouts as unknown.
At the time, Rayamajhi had reportedly been injured after being struck in both hips with a khukuri. It was later stated that Chakre would be investigated in connection with the same case, and he was being taken to Bhaktapur for that reason.
On July 30, 2024, Chakre and others were arrested in a joint operation by the Valley Crime Investigation Office and Kathmandu District Police Range. A total of 47 people were arrested in that operation, of whom 28 were later released.
They were arrested after police received reports of loud noise during Chakre’s birthday party in the middle of the night. The arrests were made while the birthday celebration was taking place at Hotel Sambala, Maharajgunj.
