Installation of CCTV cameras at Thamel, the main tourist hub in Kathmandu, has begun.

CCTV cameras are being strategically installed at every major point in Thamel. The project is being spearheaded by the Thamel Tourism Development Council with support from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari.

Council Chairperson Bhabishwor Sharma has announced the installation of CCTV cameras in Thamel to enhance the cleanliness, aesthetics, safety, and organization of the area, while also reinforcing peace and security.

He said a total of 80 cameras have been placed at locations such as Lainchaur Marg, Chhetrapati Marg, Nursing Chowk Marg, Chaksibari Marg, Satghumti Marg, JP Line Marg, and Paryatan Marg within the Thamel area.

“The plan is to install 112 cameras, including four big ones, to make Thamel safe,” he said.

Before the installation of cameras within the Thamel area, representatives from KMC, Kathmandu Valley Police Office, and Thamel Tourism Development Council conducted a comprehensive study to determine the necessary quantity and types of cameras needed.
