The government has appointed Dr DN Shah to the vacant position of the Vice Chancellor of National Academy of Medical Sciences.

A Cabinet meeting held on Monday made the appointment. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the Chancellor of the Academy, had finalised the name.

Earlier, a panel under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav formed to recommend names for the position had shortlisted Dr Shah, Dr Dhundi Raj Paudel and Dr Ajit Rayamajhi for the position. Dr Shah was on the top of the list.

Dr Shah is currently working at Grande International Hospital. Before this, the vice chancellor would be picked from within NAMS.

The position was vacant since the retirement of Dr Ganesh Gurung in September 2018.
