Kathmandu, March 9
The Asian Development Bank, the donor funding the upgradation of the 28-km Butwal-Narayangadh highway, has disqualified an Indian contractor company, JP infra from the bidding process.
JP Infra had been selected by officials to develop the project, and its name had been sent to the ADB for approval. However, the ADB declared that the company was not qualified to take up the project. The ADB is learnt to have withheld the project after JP Infra’s sister company Jay Praskash Associates was taken to by homeowners of its housing project demanding that the company be declared insolvent.
The ADB had then written to the Department of Roads seeking clarification about JP Infra. But now it has written to the Department of Roads saying that all past agreements with JP Infra are to be cancelled and the bidding process started afresh.
According to the department, the DPR of the project has already been completed. Under the project, the two-lane highway is being expanded to four lanes with a loan from the ADB.
