Budhanilkantha incident: Three bottles of poison found, murder-suicide suspected

Kathmandu, June 16

Police are investigating a suspected case of murder followed by suicide after the bodies of a woman and a man were discovered inside a rented house in Budhanilkantha Municipality-4, Pasikot.

The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Anjana Tamang of Galchi Rural Municipality-6, Dhading, and 54-year-old Permanarayan Gill, an Indian national from Chandigarh. Gill, a photographer by profession, had been living in the rented house for about one and a half years and operated a small photography business from the premises.

According to police, Anjana, who lived in Kathmandu with her two daughters and worked at Gill’s residence, did not return to her rented room on Friday evening. Concerned family members tried calling her, but were unable to reach her. Around 6 pm, they went to the house where she worked. Finding the lights on but getting no response despite knocking and calling out, they alerted the police.

A team from Maharajgunj Police Circle and Budhanilkantha Police Post arrived at the scene. Finding the door latched from inside, officers forced it open and discovered both bodies—Anjana’s body on the sofa of a second-floor room and Gill’s on the floor nearby.

Preliminary investigations suggest Gill murdered Anjana before taking his own life by consuming poison. Three bottles of pesticide were recovered from the room—two empty and one partially filled. A hammer-like blunt force injury was found on the right side of Anjana’s head, indicating she was attacked while seated on the sofa.

Police noted no sign of forced entry, and CCTV footage reportedly showed no suspicious movement. A key to the door was found in Gill’s pocket, leading investigators to believe he may have locked one door from the outside before entering through another door or window.

The bodies have been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Police also reported that one of the four dogs Gill kept was found dead in the room, apparently killed by blunt force trauma.

Both the deceased were married. Gill’s wife lives in France, while Anjana’s husband had left for foreign employment in the Gulf just three days before the incident. Police suspect the tragedy followed a breakdown in an extramarital relationship between Gill and Anjana.

A detailed investigation is ongoing.
