Rastriya Janata Party Nepal leader Rajendra Mahato says the budget plan for the fiscal year 2019/20 is against sentiments of federalism.

Participating in a discussion on the plan during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Mahato said the federal government tried to control a big chunk of the treasury, depriving provincial and local governments of their shares.

“The greatest feature of this plan is being anti-federalism,” he said, “While the central government would control all the budget, the provincial governments could not get even 20 per cent share.”

“This is sad,” he commented.

Meanwhile, Mahato demanded that the government hand over all development projects except the national pride projects and those related to foreign affairs, national security and monetary issues to the provincial governments.

In another context, he protested a recent vacancy announcement of the Public Service Commission citing it was against the principle of inclusion.
