Biratnagar: Congress in preliminary lead against two alliances

Biratnagar, June 30

The Nepali Congress is leading the preliminary vote count in Biratnagar Metropolitan City of Morang district though other major forces had formed alliances against it in the second phase of local level elections held on Wednesday.

As of Friday morning, NC mayoral candidate Bhim Parajuli is leading the count with 152 votes.

His closest rival is CPN-UML’s Binod Dhakal, who has received 97 votes.

Likewise, the third in the race is Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal’s Umesh Yadav, who has received eight votes.

The UML has formed the poll alliance with the Nepal Democratic Forum whereas the FSF-N is supported by the CPN-Maoist Centre.

In the race of deputy mayor as well, the Congress candidate is ahead of UML-Democratic Forum and Maoist-Socialist Forum alliances.

Biratnagar is the only metropolitan city among 334 local levels that went to polls on Wednesday.
