Ailing Maoist Centre leader Barsha Man Pun is preparing to undergo a liver transplant soon, inform doctors attending him.

Sumeru Hospital’s senior gastroenterologist Yub Raj Sharma, who is involved in Pun’s treatment for a long time, says around 80 per cent of Pun’s liver has been infected, hence liver transplantation is the only option available.

“It should be done within a few weeks or a month,” he says.

Sumeru Hospital, where the former finance minister is admitted, says it has begun consulting Pun’s family and party about the next course of the treatment.

Liver transplantation is not much different here and abroad,” Sharma says, “But since he is regularly doing checkups in China, we are discussing where he wants to do the next course.”

Pun is suffering from a serious illness related to jaundice for the past few years. He frequently visits China for treatment.

Whereas Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal visited him yesterday, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun and Deputy Prime Minister Bishnu Paudel went to meet him today.
