Bangladesh Embassy engages Nepali hospitality sector with fish exhibition

Kathmandu, November 25

On the eve of the “Bangladesh Fish Festival,” the Embassy of Bangladesh in Nepal showcased various types of fish on its premises.

The event, which was held on Monday at the embassy premises in Basundhara, Kathmandu, featured participation from Bangladesh’s leading fish exporters. They provided information about the varieties of fish found in Bangladesh and their business potential.

In his inaugural remarks, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Nepal, Md. Shafiqur Rahman, highlighted the unique taste, culinary traditions, and global popularity of Bangladesh’s freshwater and marine fish.

He also stated that the export-oriented fisheries sector is one of Bangladesh’s most promising business industries. He expressed confidence that this would further expand trade cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh.

Ambassador Rahman expressed his gratitude to all participants of the event.

During the program, President of the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN), Binayak Shah, said that such events would further strengthen the trade partnership between Nepal and Bangladesh. 

The program was attended by investors and managers from Nepal’s hotels and resorts, as well as representatives from firms involved in fish import businesses.

The embassy has also planned to organize the “Bangladesh Fish Festival” on November 28 on the embassy premises. According to the embassy, diplomats, government officials, and leading businesspersons will participate in the festival.

Fish is one of Bangladesh’s major sources of foreign currency earnings and has significantly contributed to the national economy.

According to the embassy, Bangladeshi fish is exported to more than 50 countries. Major export destinations include the European Union, the United States, Japan, Russia, and China.

As per the Export Promotion Bureau’s data, revenue from frozen and live fish exports increased by 11.64% in the recent fiscal year, reaching USD 532.94 million. Similarly, shrimp exports increased by 23.84%, reaching USD 407.25 million.

Apart from fish, Bangladesh’s garments, jute, leather, and textiles are also well-known in the global market.
