Kathmandu, September 24
Nepal have been pitted in Group A in the fifth edition of Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament, an invitational event organised by Bangladesh.
Defending champions Nepal take on Tajikistan in the first group match of the tournament, which is to kick off on October in Bangladesh. The team will then play Palestine, the other team in the pool, on October 5. Similarly, hosts Bangladesh, the Philippines and Laos make Group ‘B’.
The Nepali squad’s participation in the tournament had been uncertain after as the Bangladesh Football Federation had not paid the team its prize money for winning the previous edition of the tournament. However, on Sunday the association released the $25,000 award to the Nepali team.
