Kathmandu, June 3

Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol inspected a landfill site in Sisdol in Nuwakot on Friday.

After hearing the problems and complaints of the locals, Mayor Shah assured to take immediate measures to remove the odour by using chemicals.

Saying that it takes a week to get rid of the odour after applying the chemical, he said, “It can be made odourless in a week. But, to start the work, trucks should be allowed in the area.”

Balen Shah also announced plans to set up a system to make manure from garbage and to extract gas by drilling. According to him, it will take three to four months to complete the project.

Shah also added that arrangements would be made to separate and dispose of perishable and non-perishable garbage.

Local representatives and civic leaders complain that whenever they have demanded that they should be allowed to live in a healthy environment, they had been repressed by the police administration. As human beings and garbage cannot live in the same place, they demanded proper management of garbage for locals.
