Kathmandu, June 14

Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel has stressed that police officials need to understand legal provisions and procedures better as they are the ones to investigate criminal cases.

He says the number of police officials with sufficient legal knowledge should increase in Nepal Police.

Inaugurating a meeting police officials and government attorneys from Province 3, Gandaki and Province 5 in Kathmandu on Friday, Kharel highlighted that many problems appeared due to lack of legal knowledge in police.

The official complained that police could not improve their performance though the judiciary also questioned the way they handled criminal cases multiple times.

He was of the view that government attorneys also did not take the issue seriously and just endorsed what police officials recommended.
