Kathmandu, June 16
At least seven people died in floods and landslides in Helambu and Melamchi regions of the Sindhupalchok district, just a few kilometres east of Kathmandu, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Chief District Officer Arun Kumar Pokharel says local officials and the police have collected reports of seven deaths in the past hours.
Three bridges in Helambu and one in Melamchi have been swept away by the floods. Many roads have been destroyed, leaving many parts of the district disconnected. Pokharel says efforts are underway to mobilise helicopters to rescue people stranded due to floods and landslides.
Many places of the district have been severely hit by the monsoon disaster.
