File: An IED

Chitwan, December 3

A bomb disposal squad of the Nepali Army deactivated one of the two grenades found planted at Bharatpur Metropolitan City-5 of Chitwan district this morning.

However, the other grenade that was found planted near the Metropolitan City’s Ward-5 Office in Geetanagar went off before the army squad could dispose it, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prabhu Prasad Dhakal at the District Police Office, said.

The grenade was discovered at 2 am today. However, no casualties were reported in the explosion except that the windowpanes at the Ward Office were shattered, the District Police Office said.

Police suspect that the grenades might have been planted by a group protesting upcoming elections to terrorise voters ahead of the polls.
