Kathmandu, February 3

The central bank has clarified that it has not banned advertising on social media, but the payment should be made via legal channels.

Earlier last week, the Nepal Rastra Bank had issued a notice warning the public that they would face legal action if they make payments for goods and services illegally via social media. After some social media users misinterpreted the notice claiming the bank banned social media advertising entirely, the bank clarified Monday.

“If anyone wants to advertise on social media, they can,” NRB director Bam Bahadur Mishra says, adding the payment, however, should be made via legal channels and the NRB should approve the transactions if it involves the foreign currency.

Meanwhile, the official informs that the central bank will soon issue a directive to regular social media advertising.
