She is not a celebrity, but her social media content on financial literacy has made her no less than one. Anupama Sangraula, who goes by the name CA Anupama on Instagram, has garnered over 100,000 followers through her content on financial literacy.
She started to post short videos about tax education and financial literacy in February. Those contents gradually popularised Anupama Sangraula, 29, as CA Anupama.
From CA to social media guru
She completed the CA course in India in 2018. She began creating short videos by taking time away from her business. Intending to raise awareness in society, she started making videos on tax education and overall financial literacy.
Currently, Sangraula has her own business and is blessed with a one-year-old son, managing both while creating videos in her free time.
“We take tax law and accounts as a normal subject, but due to lack of financial literacy a lot of people are facing trouble,” says Sangraula. “Even the educated people have low financial literacy.”
After learning that many people lack financial literacy knowledge, Sangraula began making videos to create awareness. Topics like tax education and financial literacy are not taught in schools. Many people do not even know about debits and credits, so Sangraula saw an opportunity.
She has been making videos from home to avoid distractions from her official work. Although her office, Hamro Academy, has a well-equipped studio, she prefers to create videos at home. She started making dual-conversation videos after being inspired by various Indian content creators, which have been proven effective.
Based on her experience, many things cannot be conveyed in a one-minute video, so Sangraula is in a dilemma about whether to expand her content to YouTube. “The positive message from followers makes me feel happy,” she says. “Many say that they knew about the law and their rights through my video.”
This makes her feel that her work is creating positive changes in society and makes her feel even more responsible. She says that social media makes a person popular in a short time but it is difficult to maintain consistency.
The CA dream
Anupama Sangraula, a native of Jhapa, was born in Ilam and raised in Kathmandu. She completed her schooling at Galaxy Public School in Kathmandu. She was an average student. From an early age, she wanted to become a chartered accountant, so she chose the management stream in high school.
“Since childhood, I have loved accounts. Despite not knowing what CA does, I had a dream of becoming CA from grade 5,” Sangraula recalls. Initially, Sangraula found the CA course easy, but it gradually became difficult. She found the internship more challenging than the entire CA course.
She did her internship at a multinational company based in Delhi. She had to work more than 12 hours there. “I knew the real meaning of struggle then,” she says to Onlinekhabar.
The story behind Hamro Academy
During COVID, she started Hamro Academy, an E-learning platform. Only in her free time, she used to work for Hamro Academy and after marriage, rather than doing jobs she thought of running her own business. So since 2022, she has been leading the management of Hamro Academy.
With a motive to provide quality education to every student from all parts of Nepal, Hamro Academy was started, says Sangraula. Both Sangraula and her husband, Mukul Bhatt, are chartered accountants. Since they hold expertise in the field, they began Hamro Academy with a focus on CA courses.
“Hamro Academy has CA courses of all levels,” says Sangraula.
With that, Hamro Academy also provides classes to the +2 students through their mobile app. Similarly, there is a course for preparation for medical and engineering entrance.
“To prepare for entrance examinations in medical and engineering, hundreds of students are compelled to come to the capital, leaving their families and living in rented houses,” says Sangraula. “We want to change that situation through Hamro Academy.”
