Kathmandu, June 9
The Ambukhaireni-Muglin road section in Tanahun, part of the Prithvi Highway, will be closed for three hours daily on Sunday and Monday. According to the Road Division Office Tanahun, the highway will be completely closed from 10 am to 1 pm today and tomorrow.
Pashupati Gyawali, Head of the Road Division Office in Tanahun, stated that the closure is necessary due to the risk of falling stones in Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality-4.
Gyawali stated that they are working to remove the dangerous stones from the upper part of the road after a storm, a few days ago, caused stones to fall and block the road. “The stones that fell the other day completely blocked the road. We removed them with machines. However, there is still a possibility of more stones falling,” he said. “We are taking preemptive action to clear the potential risk.”
Gyawali emphasised that the section of the Prithvi Highway is particularly narrow and hazardous. “If a stone falls while vehicles are passing, it could lead to a major accident. Given the narrowness of the road, diversion is not an option.”
Preparations are underway to ensure the road can be reopened safely after all the stones are removed within the next two days. Gyawali noted that there is no alternative route available for this section of the highway at the moment.
