Alleged gold smugger Rajan Prasad Pantha being brought to Nepal on Monday, August 21, 2017.

Kathmandu, August 21

The alleged mastermind behind the smuggling of 33 kg gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport on January 5 this year has been finally brought to Kathmandu on Monday.

Rajan Prasad Pantha was arrested by police in Dubai of United Arab Emirates around two months ago while he tried to flee from the Arab country.

Then, he was kept in Dubai police’s detention for 70 days before Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police began procedures to bring him to Nepal.

Earlier, Interpol has issued a red-corner notice in his name after the request of CIB.

Police, however, had failed to nab him before being arrested from a Dubai airport, according to CIB.

Nepal Police has accused him of operating a smuggling racket from Dubai.

Three persons had been arrested in possession of 33 gold on January 5.
