Pawan Sarraf raising his bat after reaching 50

Kathmandu, November 14

The India Emerging Team have beaten the Nepal Emerging Team by seven wickets in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup taking place in Bangladesh.

Winning the toss, India put Nepal into bat. Nepal, who were without two key men including Paras Khadka and Sandeep Lamichhane, struggled from the start as India reduced Nepal to 58 for three in the 19 overs.

Gyanendra Malla’s poor showing with the bat continued as he was out in the second ball of the innings for a duck. Sharad Vesawkar and Pawan Sarraf, who scored 44 and 56 respectively, tried to stabilise the innings. However, as both of them got out in quick succession, Nepal’s innings crumbled.  A quick-fire 20 from Karan KC helped Nepal Emerging Team reach a  below-par total of 193.

Saurabh Dubey was the pick of the bowlers for India, picking four wickets in seven overs giving away only 21 runs.

In return, India never looked out of control. They were given a solid start as their openers Belur Ravi Sharath and Aryan Juyal put up a 74-run stand for the opening wicket. Even though they lost both Sharath (49) and Juyal (29) in the space of eight balls, the innings was taken forward by Sanvir Singh and Armaan Jaffer. The two put up a 97-run stand which helped India Emerging Team win the match. Singh scored 51 runs before giving this wicket away to Karan KC while Jaffer was unbeaten on 51.

Nepal will take on Hong Kong on Saturday.
