Kathmandu, October 26
The likelihood of rainfall and snowfall across several parts of Nepal has increased as Cyclone Arnab, developing over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned.
Issuing a special weather bulletin, the department urged people to remain alert to possible adverse weather conditions.
According to the department, the weather system is moving west-northwest and is likely to intensify into a powerful cyclone.
The system is forecast to reach the coastal areas around Visakhapatnam in India’s Andhra Pradesh state on October 28.
Its effects are expected to begin influencing weather conditions in various parts of Nepal from October 28.
The department has forecast rainfall in many places across Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
On October 30 and 31, some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Some places in Lumbini Province are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Rainfall and snowfall are possible in parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces as well.
The department warned that snowfall and adverse weather conditions could disrupt daily life in high-hill and Himalayan areas. It has marked several Himalayan districts in red to indicate a higher level of risk and urged people in potentially affected areas to take precautions.
