Kathmandu, October 26
Preparations are underway to give vitamin A to 2.1 million children across all sectors on November 3 and 4.
The government usually distributes vitamin A on October 19 and 20 as the first round of its regular programme for fiscal year 2026/27. Because Dashain fell in that period, preparations have begun to distribute it on November 3 and 4 instead.
Lila Bikram Thapa, chief of the Nutrition Section at the Department of Health Services, said vitamin A capsules will be given to children aged 6 to 59 months, and deworming medicine to children aged one to five years.
Vitamin A will be given to about 2.1 million children, and deworming medicine to about 2 million. The vitamin A supplies have already been sent to the health supply centres in all provinces.
The government began regularly giving vitamin A capsules in 2050 BS and deworming medicine in 2056 BS to reduce the risk of health complications and malnutrition among children.
He said 52,000 female community health volunteers and 10,000 health workers will be deployed for the national vitamin A programme.
