National Vitamin A programme scheduled for November 3-4

Vitamin A

Kathmandu, October 18

The government is going to conduct this year’s National Vitamin A programme on November 3 and 4.

The government typically conducts this program twice a year, with the first phase in October and the second in April. However, this year, due to Dashain, the first phase has been rescheduled to November 3 and 4, as announced by the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services.

According to department head, Dr Vivek Karna Lal, approximately 3.2 million children aged 6 to 59 months will receive vitamin ‘A’ capsules during the two-day campaign. Additionally, over 2.9 million children between 1 and 5 years will be provided with leprosy medicine.

Children can receive vitamin A and deworming medicine by visiting the vaccination centre near their homes. In order to mitigate the risk of health complications and malnutrition in children, the government has been implementing the National Vitamin A Program since 1993. The leprosy medication initiative was initiated in 1999.
