Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Sunar has said he is ready to cooperate with investigations by his party and the government into allegations against him following the release of an audio recording in which he allegedly hurls obscene abuse at and threatens a woman.
Jana Aastha published a report on Monday featuring the audio recording. On Tuesday, RSP General Secretary Bipin Acharya issued a statement announcing that the party had initiated an investigation and barred Sunar from participating in official events in his capacity as a public office-holder.
Soon after the party’s announcement, Sunar posted a video on Facebook, saying he was prepared to answer questions raised by the public and cooperate with any investigation.
“I am ready to answer every question raised by the people. I am ready to stand before the public at any time,” Sunar said. “I am ready to cooperate with all kinds of investigations conducted by the state and the party. If I have to be suspended by the central committee, I am ready. I am also ready to be suspended as a lawmaker.”
Sunar was elected to the House of Representatives from Banke-3.
He also alleged that he had been repeatedly targeted after raising questions about corruption within the police.
Speaking from Dang, where he was on party business, Sunar said he would accept legal action if he had committed any wrongdoing.
“If I have committed any sin in the eyes of God or any crime in the eyes of the law, I have no objection to being handcuffed and taken away from Dang right now,” he said.
However, Sunar denied any involvement in the audio recording circulating on social media, claiming it was fabricated.
“I have no involvement in the audio and video being circulated on social media. That is not me,” he said. “I have neither said such things nor done anything of that sort.”
He said he suspected that technology, artificial intelligence (AI), voice imitation or other means were being used in an attempt to frame him.
