Flood in Budhigandaki washes away 35 houses in Chumanubri

Kathmandu, October 11

A flood in the Budhigandaki River, which flows through Gorkha’s Chumanubri Rural Municipality, has washed away 35 houses in Paiyu and Bagar villages.

According to Chumanubri Rural Municipality Deputy Chair Laxmi Gurung, there was extensive damage in Dobhan, Ghattekhola, Jagat and Sallery villages.

Locals fled to safety after floodwaters entered the villages at around 4 am on Sunday.

She said the bazaar in Chumanubri-3 suffered heavy damage from the flood.

Considering the flood risk, residents of Khorlabeshi, Machhakhola, Soti, Arkhet and Arughat in Sirdibas and Dharche rural municipalities have been asked to move to safer places, said Police Inspector Aakash Kandel of the District Police Office, Gorkha.

No details of human casualties have been received so far, and a detailed account of the damage is still awaited.
