Kathmandu, October 8
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has taken note of growing complaints over high domestic airfares during the festive season.
According to sources close to Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Khadga Raj Paudel, Shah’s concern over rising airfares prompted the minister to direct the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to take steps to address the complaints.
Following the prime minister’s concern and the minister’s direction, CAAN held discussions with representatives of domestic airlines on Thursday.
According to a source at the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting agreed that airlines would sell tickets at fares lower than the approved maximum rates where possible and publish information about the fares on their respective sales and distribution platforms.
The government’s intervention comes as demand for domestic flights rises during the festive season, with passengers complaining about expensive air tickets.
