Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said that anyone found leaking confidential information will face action.
Gurung made the statement on Tuesday through a post on Facebook.
He said that no one would be granted immunity for deliberately betraying the country or their organisation by violating the confidentiality entrusted to them by the state. He added that such individuals would be brought to justice.
The government on Monday suspended Armed Police Force AIG Banshiraj Dahal on allegations of leaking sensitive information. The Home Ministry accused Dahal of violating official conduct and leaking sensitive information.
Gurung wrote, “I have been closely observing for a long time the tendency of officials and employees working at the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate agencies to forget their official responsibilities and leak confidential or sensitive information to unauthorised individuals or organisations.”
He further wrote, “Sensitive state information is not anyone’s private property; it is a public responsibility. Holding a position gives one access to information, but it does not give one the right to misuse it. Even the smallest piece of information, tip-off or intelligence obtained here can play a decisive role in preventing crime, advancing investigations or establishing the truth about a serious incident in the future.”
