Nepali Congress leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said he believes his faction will receive justice from the court in the ongoing dispute within the party.
Mahat, who is aligned with former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, was speaking at an event in Pokhara about the dispute surrounding the Nepali Congress special general convention and its leadership.
He said his side had chosen judicial review after disagreements over the party’s 15th General Convention could not be resolved internally.
Mahat argued that an earlier court ruling had been flawed and that the Supreme Court’s decision to allow a review had strengthened their case.
“We have stood on the side of truth. Truth will certainly prevail,” Mahat said. “The court has already said that there was an error. We still believe that justice has not died in Nepal. We will get justice.”
Mahat said the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention should be held fairly and transparently, with respectful participation from all sides.
He said the failure to reach an agreement on these issues had led his side to seek judicial intervention.
Mahat also dismissed reports that former party president Deuba would attend the opening ceremony of the general convention scheduled to begin on October 4, saying there was no possibility of his participation.
