CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has said the party will strictly enforce discipline and take action against those who violate its policies or make statements that please opposition parties.
Addressing a virtual party meeting on Tuesday, Oli said the party would no longer tolerate what he described as growing indiscipline and disorder within the UML.
“Growing disorder and indiscipline within the party will no longer be tolerated. We have taken the Central Committee meeting as the cut-off date,” Oli said. “Anyone who goes against the party’s policy and discipline, spreads disorder or speaks in a way that pleases the opposition will face strict action.”
Oli also described attempts to remove him from the party leadership in the name of party restructuring as “criminal activity.”
“There was talk of removing the chairperson in the name of restructuring. This is a criminal activity,” he said.
Oli said the party had forgiven such activities that took place before the Central Committee meeting, but warned that such leniency would not continue.
“We have said all those things that happened before the Central Committee meeting are forgiven. But there will be no forgiveness now,” he said.
He also ruled out moving towards a representative council meeting, saying the party should focus on the upcoming elections rather than internal confrontation.
“We are not moving towards any representative council meeting. This is the time to prepare for the election. This is not the time for fighting among ourselves,” Oli said.
Oli said the party’s main priorities are restoring democracy and preparing for the local-level elections scheduled for next Baisakh.
“The party will decide when to focus on which of these two tasks. We will focus on the election and win,” he said.
