The government has said former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana was threatened by an unidentified group, rejecting reports that the threat came from the Gen Z group.
Speaking to journalists at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, government spokesperson Sasmita Pokhrel said Rana received the threat through a text message sent by an unidentified group.
According to Pokhrel, Rana was moved to a secure location after receiving the threat.
“There was no statement from the government or police that the security threat came from Gen Z. That was something reported in the media,” Pokhrel said. “The threat did not come from the Gen Z group. He received a threat through a text message from an unidentified group, after which he was taken to a secure location.”
Pokhrel also said Rana’s family reported that he continued to face security threats even after he had been moved to a secure location.
“The threats had already been received initially. After the threats, he was moved to a secure place. Even after that, his family reported that there was still a security threat,” she said.
