Transport operators have called on the government not to increase petroleum prices during the festive season.
Saroj Sitoula, president of the Nepal National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, said transport operators would also refrain from raising fares if fuel prices were kept unchanged.
Speaking at a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee on Monday, Sitoula said the government should not increase petroleum prices even if it has to bear losses.
“We are ready to transport passengers from Mechi to Mahakali at the current fare,” he said. “But if petroleum prices are increased, it will not be possible for us to operate the vehicles.”
He also urged the authorities to take into account the one-way surge in passenger traffic during the festive season.
Sitoula said the transport business was not a seasonal business like tourism in Mustang and that vehicle operators did not make such high profits.
