Humla, September 28
Heavy snowfall has hit Namkha Rural Municipality in northern Humla, along with three days of incessant rain.
The snowfall has blocked the road at Nyalu Lek in Namkha Rural Municipality-6 and at Nara Lek in Ward 5.
Ward Chair Paljor Tamang of Namkha-6 said travel to and from Til, Jang and Halji in Limi has been cut off. He said about 3 feet of snow has accumulated, far more than is usual even in the winter season.
Vegetables and other crops planted in the village’s fields have been buried under the snow.
Tamang said the yaks grazing in the forest could not be brought home, and that, fearing landslides, residents are staying safely in a community building.
With Nyalu Lek closed, domestic and foreign tourists travelling to and from Limi-Lapcha for Mansarovar-Kailash darshan have also been left stranded.
