Kathmandu, September 13
A total of 498 climbers had obtained permits to climb Nepal’s mountains for the upcoming autumn season as of Friday, according to the Department of Tourism.
The number of climbers seeking permits indicates continued interest in Nepal’s mountaineering sector despite the recent floods that have affected tourism infrastructure in parts of the country.
Among those who have obtained permits, the largest number are heading to Manaslu.
According to the Department of Tourism, 451 climbers, including 120 women, have received permits to climb Manaslu. They are part of 38 expedition teams.
The government has collected Rs 211 million in royalties from the climbing permits issued so far this season.
Climbers from 63 countries have obtained permits for the autumn season. Chinese nationals make up the largest group, with 100 climbers, including 29 women.
Russia has 53 climbers, followed by the United States with 37 and the United Kingdom with 28. France has 27 climbers, while Germany and Japan have 16 each.
