Kathmandu, September 11
An additional medical team, including specialist doctors, is being sent to Nuwakot to strengthen maternal and child health services in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa.
According to the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, a team of specialist doctors from Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital and Kanti Children’s Hospital is being sent to Nuwakot as part of a decision to ensure continuity of health services and provide additional services based on needs in the flood-affected areas.
The ministry said another team was being deployed as specialist services related to maternal and newborn health, children and reproductive health were further needed, even though health teams had already been providing services in the affected areas.
The team includes Dr Bina Prajapati, a level-11 paediatric specialist at Kanti Children’s Hospital; senior obstetrician-gynaecologists Dr Harikumar Shrestha and Dr Shriram Khadka from Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital; and Dr Dhan Bahadur, an obstetrician-gynaecologist at the same hospital.
The team will visit flood-affected areas of Nuwakot and Rasuwa and provide specialist services related to maternal and newborn health, child health and reproductive health as required. Necessary medicines and medical supplies will also be sent with the team.
In view of possible disruptions to health services caused by floods and landslides, the ministry has been identifying needs and mobilising additional specialist health workers, medicines and medical supplies to the affected areas.
