Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohan Acharya, who represents Rasuwa in the House of Representatives, has urged the government to introduce a special education package for children affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.
Speaking at the House meeting on Thursday, Acharya said many children who had lost their parents faced an uncertain future, while those whose parents survived were also struggling to see a way forward.
“Some children have lost their parents, and their future is already in darkness, while even those with parents are facing an uncertain future,” Acharya said. “I strongly urge the government to introduce a special education package and take action for these children.”
Acharya also urged the government to implement insurance provisions as soon as possible in areas affected by the floods.
He said around 90 per cent of employees and people engaged in various professions and businesses in Rasuwa had gone missing in the Bhotekoshi floods.
“Hydropower, tourism and the Rasuwagadhi border point were the main sources of income for Rasuwa,” he said, adding that many employees, entrepreneurs and professionals who had been working in the district were now unaccounted for.
He said those involved in businesses, industries and other professions in Rasuwa had lost almost everything, while survivors were struggling under the burden of loans after the floods swept away their property.
