The Department of Roads is consulting Chinese experts on installing a pillar-less Bailey bridge over Furke Khola in Dhading to restore traffic along the Prithvi Highway.
Department Director General Bijay Jaisi said the proposal was being discussed during an on-site inspection of the Prithvi Highway on Sunday.
“We are consulting Chinese experts about installing a pillar-less Bailey bridge across the 94-metre span at Furke Khola,” Jaisi said. “If the 100-metre bridge brought from China can be installed there, vehicular movement could resume within two to three weeks.”
Jaisi said the Department of Roads has the technical capacity required for bridge construction and pledged to restore damaged infrastructure as quickly as possible.
He said maintaining the country’s nearly 14,000-kilometre road network remained challenging, but the department was working around the clock with the resources available to it.
A team including a member of the National Planning Commission and the secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport also inspected the situation at Krishnabhir and directed officials to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
The Department of Roads has urged the public to remain patient, saying it is making every effort to ensure safe operation of the road network and restore disrupted transport links.
