Kathmandu, September 4
Rescue workers have recovered a body from the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli 3-A Hydropower Project, where two people were rescued alive.
According to Project Chief Awas Ojha, security personnel recovered one body from the tunnel. The identity of the deceased has yet to be established.
A rescue team comprising personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and Nepal Electricity Authority had earlier rescued two people alive from the project tunnel. The two, Nepal Electricity Authority mechanical foreman Sanjay Sah and supervisor Kabir Maharjan, are receiving treatment at the Nepal Army hospital in Kathmandu.
The Nepal Army said their health condition is normal. The Nepal Electricity Authority estimates that 42 engineers and employees are trapped inside the powerhouse located within the tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3-A project. Most of those trapped are believed to be inside the powerhouse itself.
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the underground powerhouse area to determine whether more people can be rescued.
