A generator has been brought to Dhunche, the district headquarters of Rasuwa, to provide mobile phone charging facilities. Electricity has been completely disrupted across Rasuwa for the past five days following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26.
The Nepal Red Cross Society brought the generator to Dhunche with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
The prolonged power outage had cut off residents, flood victims and pilgrims in Dhunche from their families and the outside world.
The Nepal Red Cross Society’s Rasuwa chapter and the Tilganga Eye Centre jointly took the initiative to address the problem. With the generator now available at the district headquarters, arrangements have been made for people to charge their mobile phones free of charge.
More than 100 people are currently charging their phones at the same time, according to the Nepal Red Cross. The service has made it easier for people to send messages to relatives living far away to let them know they are safe.
The availability of mobile charging at the district headquarters has provided relief to residents and people who travelled to Dhunche from distant areas. After getting access to the charging facility, residents have been able to re-establish contact with their families.
“The phone calls have reconnected broken hopes and brought comfort to hearts filled with worry,” a resident said.
Technical teams are working to restore the electricity service disrupted by the floods, and efforts are underway to resume power supply as soon as possible.
