Kathmandu, August 27
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is releasing nearly CHF 1 million (around Rs 189.5 million) in emergency funding to support the Nepal Red Cross Society’s response to severe flash floods in Nepal.
The funding, provided through the IFRC’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), will help the Nepal Red Cross respond to urgent needs as teams assess the extent of the damage and identify communities requiring assistance.
“The priority now is to reach affected communities and get assistance to people who have lost their homes, suffered injuries or have been cut off,” the IFRC said in a press statement.
The IFRC said it is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to provide additional support if the needs increase.
The Nepal Red Cross has begun distributing drinking water and emergency supplies, including tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits, stretchers and body bags.
The IFRC is supporting the Nepal Red Cross with emergency funding, operational coordination and technical assistance. Its regional and global teams are also on standby to provide additional capacity and international assistance if required.
