Nain Singh Mahar proposes three options to Deuba for Nepali Congress unity

Kathmandu, August 23

Nepali Congress leader Nain Singh Mahar has proposed three options to former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to help resolve the ongoing differences within the party and strengthen unity.

Mahar presented the proposals during a meeting with Deuba, suggesting that either current party president Gagan Thapa or former president Deuba should lead the party, with the two leaders reaching an agreement on who should take the leadership.

As a second option, Mahar suggested that both Thapa and Deuba could step aside from the party leadership and allow a third person to lead the party’s 15th general convention.

Under the third option, Mahar proposed that both sides agree in advance to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict, regardless of which side the ruling favours, and then work together to maintain party unity.

Mahar said he had previously presented the same three options to party president Gagan Thapa and sought a consensus.

“I told him that I had been holding discussions with everyone, including President Gagan Kumar Thapa, for party unity,” Mahar said.

He also stressed the need for Thapa and Deuba to meet and hold direct discussions.

“He said he was making efforts to bring the party together and suggested that we move forward after the court delivers its decision,” Mahar said.
