CPN-UML leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has said she does not understand the party’s ongoing “reorganisation” campaign, questioning whether removing only one leader while retaining the existing structure and power relations can really be called reorganisation.

Jhakri made the remarks in a Facebook post while appearing to defend UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and taking a swipe at the party’s ongoing reorganisation efforts.

“If the aim is to remove one chairperson while retaining the same old structure, working style, faces and power relations, can that really be called reorganisation?” she wrote.

Jhakri also questioned the lack of discussion on internal democracy during the UML’s statute convention held a day before the Gen Z-led movement.

Her remarks come amid an ongoing debate within the UML over the party’s leadership and organisational restructuring.

Several young UML leaders have responded to Jhakri’s post on social media, with some countering her remarks and questioning her position on the issue.

The exchanges reflect the growing debate within the party over its organisational structure, leadership and internal democracy.
