The state-owned Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has begun exporting its “DDC Ghee” to countries in the Middle East.
The formal launch of the export began on Friday with the shipment of 500kg of ghee to Dubai on a Nepal Airlines flight. DDC has signed a commercial agreement with private company Rato Ra Chandra Surya International Pvt. Ltd. to export ghee.
DDC General Manager Dr Sharan Pandey said the agreement covers the export of DDC ghee to all countries in the Middle East.
“We started today by sending 500kg of ghee to Dubai,” General Manager Pandey told Onlinekhabar. “We have already signed an agreement to export 50,000kg (50 tonnes) annually.”
Pandey said the agreement is limited to 50 tonnes in the first year due to the current low production of ghee, adding that export volumes will be increased as production rises.
The exports can also be made weekly depending on demand. DDC said it is accelerating efforts to expand its market beyond the Middle East.
According to General Manager Pandey, ghee exports to countries including Japan and South Korea will begin soon.
“We have just started, and we will gradually expand. For that, we also need sufficient raw materials,” he said. “From next Kartik, our products will also reach Japan, South Korea and Tibet in China.”
