Nepal’s stock market rose on Thursday after declining for four consecutive trading days.
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 7.17 points to close at 2,629 points. The market had fallen by 0.26 points on Wednesday.
The index dropped to an intraday low of 2,608 points at around 12:23 pm before recovering steadily through the rest of the trading session.
Turnover also increased. A total of Rs 4.40 billion worth of shares changed hands on Thursday, compared with Rs 3.29 billion on Wednesday.
Shares of 132 companies gained while 132 declined. Prices of 13 companies remained unchanged.
Most sectoral indices recorded movements of less than 1%.
The hydropower index posted the biggest gain, rising 0.99%. Banking gained 0.28%, investment 0.05%, life insurance 0.01%, manufacturing and processing 0.76%, and the ‘Others’ group 0.09%.
Development banks declined 0.37%, finance companies 0.19%, hotels and tourism 0.05%, microfinance 0.06%, non-life insurance 0.48% and trading 0.21%.
