Home Minister Sudan Gurung receives probe reports on Sunsari, Siraha incidents

The committees formed to investigate the incidents in Sunsari and Siraha have submitted their reports to Home Minister Sudan Gurung.

Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Rama Acharya confirmed that both committees submitted their reports on Tuesday.

“The committees submitted their reports today. Action will be taken after the reports are studied,” Acharya told Onlinekhabar.

Tensions had erupted between two communities in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Sunsari, on the night of July 26. The ensuing clash and security forces’ firing left four people dead.

Om Prakash Mehta of Kaptanganj was initially killed after being shot by security personnel. Two others, Jay Prakash Mehta and Rabindra Mehta, who were receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident, later died.

The dispute subsequently spread to Siraha, where Ganesh Yadav was also killed after being shot.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had formed separate committees to investigate the two incidents.

A committee led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa was formed to investigate the Kaptanganj incident in Sunsari. Similarly, another committee led by Joint Secretary Pushparaj Shahi was formed to investigate the incident in Siraha.

Both committees submitted their reports to the Home Ministry on Tuesday.
