Kathmandu, August 12
The process of establishing an ‘Anti-Cyber Scam Centre’ has been initiated in response to a sharp increase in cyber scams. The initiative comes amid a rise in incidents of hacking funds from mobile banking, digital wallets, and accounts such as eSewa and Khalti through various schemes, phishing, and other fraudulent methods.
Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Abinarayan Kafle said discussions have been held on the matter and work is underway to prepare a possible framework for the centre. Representatives from all relevant agencies will be involved in the centre, according to Kafle. Representatives from Nepal Police, Nepal Rastra Bank, the Nepal Bankers’ Association, digital wallet service providers, payment service providers (PSPs), payment system operators (PSOs), the Nepal Telecommunications Authority and internet service providers will be assigned as authorised contact persons.
They will be co-located at the Cyber Bureau and work through a case management system to coordinate responses to cyber scam cases, according to Nepal Police.
