Senior literary figure Prof Dr Rajendra Bimal has died at the age of 79. Bimal died at around 12:45 am, his youngest son, Bibhas Labh said. According to Labh, Bimal suddenly fell ill at around 11:30 pm on Monday while they were talking. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but died during treatment.
His body has currently been kept at his residence in Devichowk, Ward No. 10 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, for people to pay their last respects. Bimal wrote extensively in Nepali, Maithili and English across various literary genres. He held a PhD in linguistics and master’s degrees in Nepali, Maithili and Hindi.
He had been involved in teaching Nepali at Tribhuvan University since 1972. Bimal received numerous honours, including the Jagadambashree Award and Madhyapark Award. Bimal’s last rites will be performed at Swargadwari in Janakpurdham at 3 pm today.
